University Progress

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Thu, 09/19/2013 - 2:38pm

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Now that everyone has settled into the fall semester, I’d like to share some news about the progress the University has made in a couple of crucial areas.

First, a search committee is narrowing down the list of finalists for the combined positions of provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. The person who serves in these roles helps oversee all educational affairs and activities, including faculty and research. So it’s a position that’s pivotal to the University’s continued success.

Faculty and Staff Made it a Great Year

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Fri, 05/17/2013 - 1:27pm

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I’d like to thank you for making this academic year a great one.

In recent days, I've attended several events with graduating seniors. In offering their parting thoughts, a common theme has persisted. Many soon-to-be grads mentioned professors by name who they noted as exceptional mentors. Several, especially those from other countries or states, explained how staff members made them feel welcome. Perhaps they haven't always told you that directly, but in sharing their sentiments, they were expressing gratitude for your dedication and service.

Dear Students,

Now that finals are complete, I’d like to thank you for making this past year a great one. At every level, you moved UL Lafayette forward by big leaps.

We started the year by welcoming the most academically talented freshman class ever to enter the University. We also opened the newest residence halls in the Rose Garden, enhancing the physical space of our campus.

I would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Bruder for her dedication as an exceptional Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She is retiring this summer after leading our academic affairs division for nearly three years, longer than she first intended.

Visit Kicks Off Semester

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Wed, 01/30/2013 - 10:44am

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

Last week we welcomed a special guest to our University, Dr. Sandra Woodley, who became president of the University of Louisiana System earlier this month.  Dr. Woodley has a background to which many hard-working students can relate.  She married at 18 and had two small children in her early 20s.  Her path to a college degree included concurrently juggling work, changing diapers, and trying to study.  And, she admits, it was a struggle.

Dear Faculty, Staff & Students,

As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded of how much we have to be grateful for.

All the progress we’ve made over the past year despite difficult circumstances is a result of the efforts of people who care deeply about our University.

I am thankful for the enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff and the loyalty of our alumni and friends.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

It has been an exciting semester for UL Lafayette. First, I am proud of our freshmen class, which is the most academically prepared incoming class that we have ever welcomed. The class average high school GPA is a 3.3 with an average ACT score of 23. The class includes 87 high school valedictorians. Also, the Honors Program grew by 15 percent.
