Students Made it a Great Year

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Wed, 05/15/2013 - 12:50pm

Dear Students,

Now that finals are complete, I’d like to thank you for making this past year a great one. At every level, you moved UL Lafayette forward by big leaps.

We started the year by welcoming the most academically talented freshman class ever to enter the University. We also opened the newest residence halls in the Rose Garden, enhancing the physical space of our campus.

Our goal was to improve the neighborhood atmosphere of campus. And, you did it. Many of you took advantage of our new living-learning communities. Student participation in the SGA elections this year set several all-time highs. You supported a referendum to help make major improvements to the campus.

You helped institute traditions such as the official graduation ring, cheered on our football team to a consecutive bowl victory, introduced a spring semester organization membership drive, and prompted me to sign a declaration for improved sustainability.

You volunteered community service hours, excelled at academic and athletics competitions across the globe, and continually showcased your abilities, creativity and leadership all year.

For those who graduate this Saturday, I congratulate you and offer you best wishes on behalf of the University community. You are forever a part of the Ragin’ Cajun family. Please stay in touch and visit us often.

For our returning students, I wish each of you a safe and productive summer. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Sincerely,

E. Joseph Savoie
