Great Start to the Fall Semster

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Fri, 09/18/2015 - 11:45am

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The new year is off to a tremendous start. The energy on campus is palpable.

We welcomed our largest freshman class, and I might add, our brightest, too. The freshman class has 3,179 students, which represents a 9 percent increase over last year. Our overall enrollment for the Fall 2015 semester is 19,033. I would like to thank the Enrollment Management staff for its efforts and congratulate everyone who supports student recruitment.

We also welcomed more than 270 new faculty and staff who have joined our community.

We celebrated campus progress last weekend, including officially opening the Student Union, the Quad, and the Louisiana Welcome Wall, all student-driven and student-funded initiatives. We also took a moment to honor the legacy of Helma B. Constantine, a leader in the charge for our University to become the first public university in the Deep South to integrate, by dedicating the Forum inside the U in her honor. This year, we seek to adopt a new strategic plan to take us through the year 2020. Please log in to ULink and review it under the Employee tab. We welcome your feedback on the draft. You will find a link to post your comments.

It takes everyone’s efforts to recruit and retain quality students, to set our strategic priorities, and to help us move forward. We owe our success to each of you. Now is the time to stay focused on maintaining our positive momentum.

Let’s have a great year!

Sincerely,
Dr. E. Joseph Savoie
