Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!
Dear students, faculty and staff members,
Today, the University is launching the “Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!” incentives program that rewards students who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine and encourages those who have not to do so.
Fully vaccinated students are eligible to win one of 10 prizes in a series of drawings that begin Tuesday, Aug. 10, and continue through early October.
Prizes include two iPhone 12s, two MacBook Airs, two Oculus Quests, an Apple Watch, free campus parking, and two, $300 Declining Balances.
To participate, students must:
- have received the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine or both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines before the date of the drawing;
- provide proof of vaccination if they’ve received the vaccine outside Louisiana; and
- be registered for classes for the Fall 2021 semester.
More information, including how to register and when drawings will be held, is available on the “Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!” program website.
In the coming weeks, the University will announce a schedule of on-campus vaccination clinics for students and faculty and staff members. In the meantime, visit vaccines.gov to find local locations where vaccines are available.
Vaccines are free, they are safe, and they are the best shot we have to end the pandemic.
I encourage you to seek reliable information about the virus and how vaccines work to prevent its spread. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Louisiana Department of Health websites are great places to start.
If you haven’t been vaccinated, we hope the University’s incentives program encourages you to protect yourself and others. If you have, thank you, and please consider talking to your family and friends who haven’t and urge them to follow your lead.
Also, students, faculty and staff members who have taken at least one vaccine dose can enter Louisiana’s Shot at a Million rewards program. You have until the end of the month to register to win $100,000 or $1 million.
That’s not a bad payday – and the prizes the University is offering are pretty good, too.
But perhaps the greatest reward is the satisfaction that you’ll feel knowing that you made the right choice to protect yourself, those you hold dear and our wider community.
So, Geaux, Cajuns – and Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!
Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph Savoie
President
