Thank You for Another Outstanding Year

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Wed, 05/02/2012 - 2:33pm

Dear Students,

With finals underway, I’d like to take a moment to wish you all the best of luck with your remaining exams and projects.  Your hard work, dedication, service, and Ragin’ Cajun spirit have made this an outstanding year at UL Lafayette.

I would like to acknowledge our first ever recipients of the Dean of Community Service Excellence in Service Award.  Congratulations to Chris Castille, Jessica Frazier, Kelly Gilbert, Lauren Granger, Mariya LeMaire, Amanda Noble, Kaylen Persick,  Jacob Pohlman, Sarah Sonnier and Viphone Souriya.  These 10 graduating seniors completed a combined total of 8,927 hours of service and have a combined economic impact to the community of about $170,000.  Thank you to all students for your service!

Commencement ceremonies are right around the corner, and for those who graduate this semester, I offer you sincere congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the university community.  You are forever a part of the Ragin’ Cajun family, so please stay in touch and come back often to visit.

Everyone is invited to attend the Spring Commencement General Assembly on Saturday, May 12 at the Cajundome.  Retired Lt. General Russel Honoré, former commander of Joint Task Force for Hurricane Katrina and global preparedness expert, will be the keynote speaker and we will recognize Joe Stewart, an Emmy-award winning television production designer, with an honorary doctorate of fine arts.

For our returning students, I wish each of you a safe and productive summer.   We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Sincerely,

E. Joseph Savoie
