Student Research: 2020 Quality Enhancement Plan
Dear students, faculty and staff members,
UL Lafayette is preparing for its 2020 reaccreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Once every 10 years, as part of the reaccreditation process, the University identifies a Quality Enhancement Plan. The QEP is a campus-wide initiative that provides a measurable way for us to demonstrate our commitment to supporting student learning.
Our previous QEP led to the creation of UNIV 100, a first-year seminar that has contributed to our students’ academic success and to higher retention rates.
Last fall, after a university-wide call for ideas and extensive discussions and voting, we selected our 2020 QEP: Student Research.
Aligned with our mission and strategic plan, this initiative will provide faculty with new resources to engage students in insightful scholarship and active research. It will expand our efforts to involve more undergraduates in research.
The QEP will encourage faculty and students in all departments to advance the boundaries of knowledge, foster creativity and innovation, and share best practices. Student research has been shown to contribute to retention and graduation; the experience of discovery can inspire students while broadening their understanding of higher learning.
I’m confident our new QEP will lead to greater collaboration and enrich the UL Lafayette student experience.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joseph Savoie
President
