Some Good News

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Wed, 08/25/2021 - 1:47pm

Dear faculty and staff members,

The legislative session that ended in June resulted in the most significant investment in higher education in Louisiana since 2008.

The budget approved by the Legislature and signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards included salary increases for faculty members at the state’s public colleges and universities and market pay adjustments for classified employees.

In the weeks since the session’s conclusion, the University has worked to determine if we could provide pay increases to our unclassified staff members as well.

Today, I’m pleased to report we will be able to do just that.

Effective Sept. 1, faculty members will receive merit-based salary adjustments based on a 2.5% merit pool; some faculty may already be seeing the results of the Legislature and governor’s actions.

Effective Oct. 1, unclassified staff members will receive a 2.5% across-the-board increase.

Classified employees received a 4% market pay adjustment effective July 15 in accordance with Louisiana State Civil Service guidelines.

Increased state investments in higher education also will enable the University to address faculty pay equity. That process is ongoing.

I remain appreciative to the governor and members of the Legislature for prioritizing the state’s colleges and universities and the people who fuel their success.

Their support is recognition of the vital role each of you play in providing our students with the tools and knowledge they need to pursue their dreams.

I’m very grateful to work alongside each of you. Thank you all, and Geaux Cajuns!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph Savoie
