September 22, 2010 — Announcing a University Budget Summit

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Wed, 09/22/2010 - 12:42pm

Dear Faculty & Staff,

I am writing today to invite you to a University Budget Summit on Tuesday, September 28, at 2 p.m. in Angelle Hall Auditorium.  Provost Steve Landry and I will provide the most current information available on the university’s budget, the prospect of further reductions and the collaborative process we are undertaking to manage and mitigate future cuts.

The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System is requiring all universities to develop budget reduction scenarios to prepare for future cuts.   The University Council, deans, and department heads, as well as a special faculty task force, have been engaged in this process but it is important for all faculty and staff to have the opportunity to learn more and to provide input.

Certainly you have heard and read much about the state’s budget situation these last few months. Undoubtedly you may have questions you would like addressed on September 28.  While there will be some time allowed for audience questions, I would like to offer you the option of submitting questions in advance.  I suspect that many are asking the same things, so questions provided in advance will allow for the presentation to be customized to meet your needs and answer your most pressing questions.

Please click here to submit your question anonymously.  We will do our best to provide answers to your questions either before, during or after the meeting on September 28.

All of us, including our current and prospective students, have a stake in the outcome of these budget discussions and in the actions of our state leaders.  I look forward to seeing you on September 28.
