May 4 — A Message Before You Go

Dr. Joseph Savoie -- Tue, 05/04/2010 - 12:35pm

Dear Students,

Finals are well underway and I trust you’re quite busy with your studies.  It is likely that you are counting the days, hours, and minutes until the start of your well-deserved semester break.  For many, your return will be in the fall.  Before you go, I’d like to take a moment to thank you for helping to make this an outstanding year at UL.

Did you know that ….

(1)  The Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government ranks UL Lafayette among the Top 100 public research universities in the nation.

(2)  UL Lafayette is a major economic engine in our region. Last year the university had a total spending impact alone of nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars in Louisiana….most of that in Acadiana.

(3) More than 70 percent of high school graduates in Acadiana who attend four-year public universities make UL Lafayette their university of choice.  But our students don’t just come from Acadiana.  Our student body is comprised of students from 62 Louisiana parishes, all 50 states and 106 countries.  Over the past few years, more and more top high school graduates have enrolled as first time freshmen.

Best of luck with your remaining exams and projects.  For those who graduate this semester, I offer congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the university community.  Please stay in touch and come back often to visit.

For everyone else, stay safe.  We look forward to having you back in the fall.

Have a wonderful summer,

E. Joseph Savoie
